The YARHA International Film Festival was held in the capital of Cameroon, Yaoundé, within the framework of which special screenings of Kazakh films were organized.
The film Nartai, shot with the assistance of the Kazakhcinema by order of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participated in the main competition program of the festival and received four prizes, including for the Best feature film. Other Kazakhstani films were also shown in the festival program.
«This is the first time I've seen a feature film from your country, I've only seen documentaries before. When you are a film professional and you watch the work of a professional from another country, you are trying to understand the film language. And it's just exceptional, it's gorgeous. When we watch these films, we find ourselves in a specific story told by the film language, and this is what captivated me», - says one of the guests of the event, director, participant of the Cannes Film Festival Moussa Touré.
African viewers highly appreciated the level of Kazakh cinema, and industry professionals offered cooperation.
- I hope that the partnership with the YARHA Festival will continue next year, I am sure that it will contribute to the promotion of a positive image of Kazakhstan. Cultural diplomacy must continue. We want Kazakh paintings to be shown also in Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal and Congo, - stressed Andre Ivanov, President of the French Association of Kazakh Cinema.
The organizer of screenings of domestic films in Cameroon is The French Association of Kazakh Cinema. It was a kind of mini festival of Kazakh cinema – the first on the African continent.
