Last weekend, the National Cinema Center held a special event at the Berlin Film Festival, one of the major film festivals in the focus of attention of the entire international moviemaking community, to promote Kazakhstan as one of the world’s rapidly developing moviemakers.
The guests were hosted by a large Kazakh delegation, which, according to the current trends, consisted mainly of the women actively involved it the national moviemaking industry, namely: Gulnara Sarsenova - the Chairwoman of the State Center for Support of the National Cinema, Anna Katchko – International relations supervisor and an advisor of the National Cinema Center’s Chairman, Regina Toderenchuk, Yesseniya Abenova, and Assel Yrys – international experts of the National Cinema Center.
The other members of the delegation were as follows: Aliya Uvalzhanova – producer of Astanatelefilm, Laura Yergaliyeva – CEO of Eurasia Talents, Nadin Tsoy – Casting Director of Eurasia Talents, Olga Hlascheva – head of the Kazakhfilm Studio International Relations Department, Yulia Kim – producer, Akmaral Zykayeva (Mergen) – composer, Olga Korotko – film director, as well as Yernar Kurmashev – head of Almaty Culture Department, and Aday Abeldinov – the head of the Kazakhfilm’s Animation Film Studio.
The event caused quite a stir among the Festival guests and participants; about four hundred people have visited the Kazakh Cinema booth. Reputable moviemakers and the heads of the largest organizations showed interest to cooperation with Kazakhstan. Among the Kazakh booth guests, there were the prominent figures such as Jess Conoplia, the president of the Association of Film Commissioners International (USA), Katriel Schory, director of the Israel Film Fund, Yevgeniya Markova, CEO of Roskino company, Sergey Selyanov, head of STV Company, Dauren Karipov, Republic of Kazakhstan Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and Galina Nurtassinova, director of the Germany-Kazakhstan Association in Berlin.
The main objective of the presentation, same as the other events with participation of the Kazakh Cinema representatives, was to trumpet the modern Kazakhstan moviemaking industry diversity as loud as possible and to picture Kazakhstan as an attractive site for international projects implementation.
