New Year's Eve is not just everyone's favorite holiday, when we give each other bright gifts and make wishes. This is a time when you can look back at the path you have traveled, rejoice in your successes and remember that any life experience is valuable for each of us.
In this sense, 2021 was not the easiest year, but we are grateful to it – it taught us a lot. And today, assessing everything that we had to go through, we can state that the outgoing year has become truly eventful for the Kazakhcinema team.
As a result, films made with the support of the Kazakhcinema won prizes at reputable film festivals. This year, the film “Poet” by Darezhan Omirbayev was awarded a prize at the prestigious Tokyo International Film Festival, and the film “Fire” by Aizhan Kassymbek received an award at international film festivals in Los Angeles and Sochi.
I would like to emphasize that our films are already interesting not only for domestic, but also for foreign film distribution networks and streaming services. By the way, at the Moscow film market, international experts underlined that today Kazakhstan is the obvious leader of the Central Asian region. Our country has created the largest cluster, which produces film content in very serious volumes.
During the year, we held presentations at such major venues as the Tashkent International Film Festival “Pearl of the Silk Road”.
Another success was the holding of the first ShortAnimaDoc - a screening of short films, animated films and documentaries made with the support of the State Center for Support of National Cinema.
We already have a lot of plans for the coming year. Here are just a few of them. Preparations are underway to promote our film projects at the Berlin and Cannes Festivals, where Kazakhstan will have its own pavilions. The Kazakhcinema's delegations will take part in the work of the Moscow International Film Market and the Cinema Expo Forum in St. Petersburg. In the fall, our films will be presented at the American Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. At the intergovernmental level, we are preparing to sign a co-production agreement with France, Germany, Russia and China.
Also, the next year, it is planned to release mandatory rental of paintings produced with the support of the Kazakhcinema in 2019-2020. We will continue work on major film projects dedicated to Zhambyl Zhabaev and Akhmet Baitursynov. And at the beginning of next year, a large-scale painting “Genghis Khan's White Cloud” will be launched. And, of course, throughout the year, films will be shot, applications for which passed the competitive selection in 2021.
In short, the upcoming year, which we want to position as the Year of Young Cinema in Kazakhstan, promises to be rich and fruitful.
I wish you all new achievements, fulfillment of cherished desires, realization of all plans and, of course, good health!
Happy New Year!
Chairman of the Management Board of the Kazakhcinema
